Hólar
University College is a scientific educational and research institution whose
objective is to train students to carry out expert work and research in the
school’s fields of specialisation. The Univeristy is a centre for education
and research in horsemanship and horse breeding, aquaculture, aquatic biology,
and tourism studies. It is the aim of Hólar University College to enhance
the level of knowledge and professionalism in the economic sectors and cultural
activities related to its fields of specialisation. The Univeristy participates
actively in fostering the Icelandic knowledge society by developing research
and teaching facilities comparable to any, in addition to emphasising vigorous
teaching and research work, both in Iceland and internationally. The College
is Iceland’s international representative in these fields.
There are three departments within the University, all of which aim to promote
Icelandic economy and culture as they relate to their fields of specialisation.
The
objective of the Aquaculture and Fish Biology Department is to gather and
disseminate knowledge in the fields of aquatic biology, aquaculture, and
fish biology. The department an international centre for research, instruction,
and continuing education in aquatic biology, aquaculture, and fish biology.
The department promotes the professional development of aquaculture in
the spirit of sustainable development.
The objective of the Rural Tourism Department is to gather and disseminate knowledge about tourism affairs in order to
increase professionalism and
innovation in the sector and to guarantee the sustainable development of
tourism in Iceland.
It achieves this goal through teaching, research, and development projects
in extensive collaboration with the economic and educational community,
both in Iceland and abroad. The department emphasises quality, collaboration,
and diversity in research, instruction, and development projects.
The objective
of the Equine Science Department is to provide professional education in
the fields of horse breeding, horse training, horsemanship,
and riding teaching.
Furthermore, the department works toward development and innovation
through research activities. It also promotes increased profitability in the
sector, the spread of equestrian activities, and the welfare of horses. The
department
is an international centre for education and research in the fields
of horse
breeding, horse training, horsemanship, and riding teaching.
Research and collaboration
Growing research programs support the education in all three
departments. The college has formal collaboration agreements in
place with several universities and public and privat institutions
both within Iceland and abroad.
