Erindið er á ensku og ber heitið Interpretation in Ásbyrgi: how to effectively communicate with National Park visitors.
As tourism increases in Iceland, there is corresponding demand to effectively manage tourists to ensure safe and responsible experiences that are as socially, economically and environmentally sustainable as possible. This management includes decisions about interpretation – what information to provide for tourists and the most effective way to deliver that information to them. This seminar will report on part of a project conducted at Ásbyrgi, in Vatnajokull National Park, in the summer of 2018. Data was collected in two stages during the month of August. Visitor behaviour was observed at three sites in the park during both stages, and 120 visitors were interviewed about their experience in the park during the second stage. Results reveal who visits the park and what activities they engage in whilst there, as well as their perspectives on current and future interpretive material.
